Mood: Getting on with Post-PE life

Quote: Originally posted by villa | I am in my mid forties with PE and have had to deal with how I look all my life. I have been away from this board for about 6 months and I cannot
believe that you are still whining about your rib flare. I wanted to write this post back then, now I wish I would have.
As long as your are a narcissist, your chest and ribs will never ever ever ever ever ever ever look the way you want them to, not ever! No matter if
you had 100 surgeries and worked out with the top trainers in the world. It will never ever ever ever happen. Never ever ever ever because your
problem is not your body, it is your head. If you don't fix your mind before February, one year from now you will still be on this board whining.
You say nothing will allow you to throw this to the back of your mind - go take a look at some photos of some wounded soldiers recently back from Iraq
and Afghanistan. Go volunteer for those who are in worse shape than you and see if you have any self-pity left because you have rib flaring. If you
do, then no amount of surgery is ever going to make you happy because you have way bigger problems than your ribs.
You have rib flaring, yes you do. You have made the choice to whine, pout and cry instead of making the choice to be happy. Happiness is a choice we
make each day. The fact that you have chosen to be so unhappy over a small part of your appearance says a lot about you. Is this really how you want
to live your life? What benefits are you getting from being so pouty and whiny, you must be getting some kind of payoff or you wouldn't keep doing
it. You are an intelligent grown man, what are you getting from this behavior - do you crave pity from others, can you think of no other way to get
attention from people? What is the payoff?
I hope for your sake that you begin to really examine your thoughts (at least as much as you examine your ribs) before you take the next step on your
nuss journey.
I wish you the best of luck!

I think you have completely and utterly missed the point about what is going on here. Scroll up to the top of the page and you will see in yellow
letters "Pectus Deformities Support Group". What that means is that this is a place where people with pectus deformities come for support to discuss
their pectus deformities with other like-minded people who understand, because they themselves have some sort of pectus deformity or someone they care
about does. This is not the wounded war veterans support group, or a support group for sick children or people with terminal cancer. Everyone here
has other concerns and interests in their lives and knows that other people are in many ways worse off, and often much worse off than themselves.
That doesn't mean we shouldn't have a "safe" and supportive place to come and discuss this particular affliction that we all share. For you to come
here and spew out such hateful invective against one of the most supportive, helpful, giving members is really inappropriate. I don't know what
concerns or problems in your own life have made you want to come here and be so mean, but I would suggest that is what you should be thinking about,
not calling people names and attempting some sort of 10 cent psychoanalysis

Couldn't agree with you more, Edge. When I first read the post by Villa, I just dismissed it as a simple case of someone projecting their own fears
and anger on to someone else. I think we all see a little bit of both Pectus Dude and Villa in ourselves, so I'm not going to defend or knock down
either stance. WE ALL feel what PD feels, but some of us are just not that vocal about it, and at the same time, WE ALL feel what Ivan feels, even if
it's just a twinge, because we're all embarrassed to be so mentally controlled by this PE affliction that we hate it when other people vocalize it. We
all feel as if we SHOULD BE worrying about other (more important) things, and that PE shouldn't have this hold on us. So we hate ourselves for feeling
that way, and we think that others shouldn't either. Unfortunately, IT IS a BIG thing, and THIS IS A SUPPORT GROUP, so if someone wants to vent or say
anything, this is the venue. In that respect, Villa is wrong. This is PD’s thread. If you want to start a thread about how we all should accept the
cards we’ve been dealt in life, that we shouldn’t cry over spilt milk, that you JUST can’t believe how some people blow this PE thing out of
proportion, etc. etc., than start another thread. I’m sure you’ll get your followers.

This is what public forums are about. The wiser more intelligent members will stay and guide the forum. Emotionally weak minded individuals will fade
away. This is fact, it is not good or bad, it just is.
Keep the topic on what the forum is about, allowing some lateral movement, where we all share our opinions and experiences.
Take the good and toss the rest. It's just that simple.
Keep posting, recover and get to the gym!

PD,
So I read on another thread that you are now off the pain meds? Are you pain free? Are you going to keep the bars in?

Yes, Maximus, I am now free of all pain medications. I am not completely pain free. But it's more of a soreness than a feeling of pain. I am
lifting very heavy weights, too, so I am sure that contributes to the pain sometimes.
